South Africa has released publication details for tariff amendments notice R7389 under the Customs and Excise Act, 1964, as set out in Government Gazette 54572.
The notice, published on 23 April 2026, provides the formal framework for amendments made under section 56 of the Customs and Excise Act, 1964, updating Part 1 of Schedule No. 2. The changes include the removal of existing provisions under item 216.02, which previously covered various electrical machinery, equipment, and sound recorders.
In place of the deleted entries, new items have been inserted, including item 216.00 for machinery and mechanical appliances and item 216.01 for fully automatic top-load washing machines classified under tariff heading 8450.20.20, with a dry linen capacity exceeding 10 kg but not exceeding 17 kg.
The revised Schedule also outlines updated anti-dumping duties on these washing machines. Imports from specific Chinese producers—Wuxi Little Swan Electric Co. Ltd and Hefei Midea Laundry Appliances Co. Ltd—are subject to a duty rate of 9.39%, while Hisense Refrigerator Co. Ltd faces a rate of 7.67%. A general rate of 13.42% applies to all other Chinese producers or exporters not specifically listed.
For imports originating in Thailand, Thai Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd is subject to an anti-dumping duty of 26.06%, while all other Thai producers or exporters face a rate of 47.23%.
The publication of notice R7389 in Government Gazette 54572 confirms the updated tariff structure and applicable anti-dumping duties under the Customs and Excise Act, 1964.
