The Czech government has approved signing a new tax treaty with Japan after concluding negotiations in March 2026, pending signature and ratification before it enters into force.

The Czech government approved the signing of a new income tax treaty with Japan at its meeting on 26 October 2026. Negotiations concluded in March 2026.

The treaty must be signed and ratified before it enters into force and will replace the 1977 tax treaty between Japan and former Czechoslovakia as it applies to the Czech Republic and Japan.

The updated agreement clarifies the scope of taxation in both countries, eliminates international double taxation, and prevents tax evasion and avoidance.

Earlier, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on 13 March 2026 that Japan and the Czech Republic had concluded negotiations and reached an agreement in principle on a new income tax treaty.
