Vietnam and Egypt agreed to strengthen their economic and trade ties by completing the legal framework for cooperation, including through the signing of a new agreement on the avoidance of double taxation.
Vietnam and Egypt agreed to complete the legal framework for stronger economic and trade ties, including by signing a new agreement on the tax treaty, during Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Le Anh Tuan’s visit to Egypt from 16 to 18 September 2026.
The agreement was discussed at the 11th Vietnam–Egypt political consultation, where both sides also welcomed progress towards a Vietnam–Egypt free trade agreement (FTA). They had agreed on the terms of reference (TOR) for a feasibility study group on the proposed FTA, while bilateral trade turnover increased by 30% year-on-year in 2025.
The two countries also agreed to advance a memorandum of understanding on electricity and renewable energy and a letter of intent on agricultural trade development. They further discussed expanding cooperation in Halal, education, tourism and other sectors to strengthen bilateral economic relations.
Tuan also urged Egypt to facilitate market access for Vietnamese agricultural products, seafood, electronics and components. Egypt encouraged Vietnamese businesses to invest in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, citing its infrastructure and policy incentives for export-oriented manufacturing.
