The UK-Vietnam customs agreement has entered into force, establishing rules for information exchange, enforcement cooperation, trade facilitation, mutual administrative assistance, and personal data protection.
The UK-Vietnam Agreement on Cooperation and Mutual Administrative Assistance in Customs Matters, signed on 29 October 2025, entered into force on 1 July 2026.
The agreement provides a framework for customs authorities to exchange information, prevent customs offences, enforce intellectual property rights and improve trade facilitation.
It covers mutual assistance on request and spontaneous information sharing, as well as cooperation through Authorised Economic Operators, controlled deliveries and joint investigation teams.
The agreement also establishes confidentiality and personal data protection requirements. It excludes the recovery of duties, taxes and fines, while disputes over interpretation or application are to be resolved through diplomatic negotiations.
