Vietnam and Burundi have agreed to accelerate negotiations and the signing of an income tax treaty as part of broader efforts to expand bilateral cooperation.
Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said representatives of Burundi and Vietnam discussed bilateral relations and agreed to direct the relevant authorities to expedite negotiations and the signing of an income tax treaty.
The two sides agreed to deepen cooperation through more high-level exchanges, support investment, agriculture, science and technology, and advance negotiations on a double taxation avoidance agreement and an investment promotion and protection pact.
Burundi also offered to serve as a bridge for Vietnam to strengthen engagement with the African Union, while reaffirming support for Vietnamese businesses, including Viettel’s telecom venture Lumitel.
If an agreement is reached, it must go through a process of negotiation, formal signing, and ratification in both jurisdictions before it can enter into force.
