The Romanian tax authority has obtained permission from the Government to establish a specialized agency for dealing with the largest taxpayers. This initiative was recommended by an IMF report published last month. Recently the Romanian Government has issued a draft resolution to allow the restructuring of the tax authority to create the new agency.
The new authority will be known as the Directorate General for Large Taxpayers. It will operate under the ultimate authority of the president of ANAF, but it will have its own budget. The new authority will concentrate solely on investigation and non-compliance of the largest taxpayers.
