The new tax treaty will replace the 1975 tax treaty between Romania and the UK.

Romania’s Chamber of Deputies (lower house of parliament) has approved a new income and capital tax treaty with the UK on 3 September 2025.

Signed on 13 November 2024, this new tax treaty will supersede the 1975 tax treaty between Romania and the UK.

It will take effect after ratification, applying in Romania from 1 January following entry into force, and in the UK from 1 April (corporation tax) and 6 April (income and capital gains tax).

The 1975 treaty will cease to be effective once the new treaty takes effect.

Earlier, Romania’s government approved the 2024 Romania–UK income tax treaty on 16 April 2025.
