The National Bank of Kazakhstan has reduced its base rate to 16.75%, with the rate continuing to serve as the benchmark for calculating late payment interest for tax purposes.

The National Bank of Kazakhstan (NBK) has reduced its base rate to 16.75%, with a corridor of 15.75%–17.75%, following its monetary policy decision on 27 July 2026. The move marks the central bank’s second interest rate cut this year after lowering the rate to 17.00% in June.

The latest reduction follows three consecutive decisions to keep the base rate unchanged at 18.00% during meetings held on 26 January, 10 March, and 27 April 2026. On 8 June 2026, the NBK lowered the rate to 17.00% with a corridor of 16.00%–18.00% before cutting it further to 16.75%.

For tax purposes, the base rate is used to calculate late payment interest, which is determined as 1.25 times the base rate, divided by 365 to arrive at the daily rate.

The NBK has scheduled its remaining base rate announcements for 4 September, 23 October, and 4 December 2026.
