China and the US are seeking feedback from businesses and other stakeholders on proposed reciprocal tariff reduction arrangements covering about USD 30 billion in bilateral trade, China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) said on 23 July 2026.
Speaking at a press briefing, Meng Huating, director of MOFCOM’s Department of Foreign Investment Administration, said: “The Chinese side is widely soliciting views from stakeholders – including domestic firms, business associations, local governments as well as American firms and business associations – on relevant tariff reduction arrangements.” He added that the United States is also collecting public feedback while the two sides continue discussions on the Board of Trade’s “framework, functions and operational model”.
The Board of Trade was announced earlier this year after Beijing and Washington agreed to ease trade tensions. The mechanism is intended to identify tariff reductions on goods worth about USD 30 billion on each side, and China has previously said agricultural products will be included in the tariff reduction framework.
Meng said the two countries will work to finalise the arrangements and move ahead with implementation. “Beijing and Washington will agree on specific arrangements as soon as possible and advance their implementation to further expand bilateral trade,” he said.
