Canada's Department of Finance has launched pre-budget consultations ahead of Budget 2026, inviting Canadians to submit views on spending and policy priorities until 8 September 2026 to help shape the government's fiscal agenda.

Canada’s Department of Finance has launched pre-budget consultations on 6 July 2026, inviting Canadians to provide input on the government’s spending and policy priorities before the budget is presented this autumn.

The government said submissions will help inform policy decisions for Budget 2026 and shape its broader priorities.

According to the Department of Finance, Budget 2026 will provide an update on progress made over the past year and outline the government’s next steps to support people, workers, families and businesses. It will also focus on building a strong economy, diversifying trade, ensuring responsible fiscal management and positioning Canada for long-term prosperity.

The consultation seeks views on priorities including boosting investment and competition, strengthening sovereignty and addressing the country’s most pressing economic challenges.

Throughout the summer, the Minister of Finance, together with Secretary of State responsible for the Canada Revenue Agency and Financial Institutions Wayne Long and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance and National Revenue and to the Secretary of State Ryan Turnbull, will hold meetings and discussions across Canada.

The engagements will involve individuals, businesses, industry and labour organisations, community leaders, academics, Indigenous partners, non-profit groups and other stakeholders to gather views on Canada’s future economic priorities.

The department said the government had taken measures over the past year under its Building Canada Strong agenda to help families manage the cost of living, encourage investment and make targeted investments in people and communities. It added that ongoing geopolitical tensions, changing trade policies and market volatility continue to shape the global economic environment, with the government aiming to strengthen Canada’s long-term economic resilience.

Canadians can submit their views through the government’s online pre-budget consultation portal until 8 September 2026, with the feedback set to inform policy decisions and priorities for Budget 2026.
