Canada has completed its domestic ratification of the UK’s CPTPP accession, with the agreement taking effect between the two countries on 1 September 2026.
Canada has completed its domestic ratification process in July 2026, clearing the final hurdle for the UK’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), according to the UK government page on the CPTPP.
The agreement takes effect between the UK and Canada on 1 September 2026. From this date, UK businesses will be able to trade with Canada under the CPTPP.
The agreement eliminates tariffs on 95% of goods traded between members and covers multiple trade sectors, including services, e-commerce, and intellectual property protection. Existing membership spans Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the UK, and Vietnam.
