The tax treaty between Bangladesh and Hong Kong entered into force on 20 December 2024. The Bangladesh-Hong Kong Income Tax Agreement (2023)’s provisions will apply from 1 April 2025 for Hong Kong and 1 July 2025 for Bangladesh.
The announcement was made in a release by Hong Kong’s government on 20 December 2024.
Hong Kong signed the Comprehensive Avoidance of Double Taxation Agreement (CDTA) with Bangladesh in August 2023. The agreement came into force after following the completion of ratification procedures by both nations.
A government spokesman highlighted the benefits of the agreement, stating, “Under the CDTAs, residents of Hong Kong and the relevant tax jurisdictions will not have to pay tax twice on a single source of income. This provides greater certainty on tax liabilities and facilitates savings on taxes for cross-border business activities, promoting bilateral trade and investment.”
