Korea (Rep. of) and Argentina have agreed to strengthen economic cooperation by finalising a double taxation agreement, expanding energy and critical minerals collaboration, and resuming trade negotiations with MERCOSUR.
Korea (Rep. of) and Argentina concluded negotiations on an income tax treaty on 31 July 2026, according to a Korean government release on 3 August 2026.
During a summit in Buenos Aires, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and Argentine President Javier Milei agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation across energy, critical minerals, trade, and investment.
The two countries finalised a double taxation treaty, agreed to support stable crude oil imports from Argentina beginning in 2027, broadened energy cooperation to include natural gas and nuclear power, signed an MoU on critical minerals focused on lithium, and committed to promptly resuming trade agreement negotiations between South Korea and MERCOSUR.
The treaty, which will be the first between the two countries, will enter into force after it is signed and ratified by both nations.
Earlier, Argentina and South Korea officials met to discuss bilateral cooperation, focusing on advancing negotiations for an income tax treaty between the two countries on 13 May 2024.
