Angola's tax authority has granted a one-week extension for March 2026 ICMS filing obligations following technical problems with its new electronic declaration system.

The General Tax Administration (AGT) of Angola has announced an extension for taxpayers struggling to meet their Value Added Tax obligations for March 2026. The original deadline of 15 May 2026 has been pushed back by one week to 22 May 2026, providing relief to businesses affected by technical difficulties.

The extension comes in response to widespread system constraints that have prevented many taxpayers from filing their periodic declarations on time. These issues stem from the recent implementation of an electronic declaration system and new automated procedures that have created unexpected obstacles for users attempting to comply with their tax obligations.

The AGT has confirmed that taxpayers who submit their ICMS declarations and payments by the new deadline will not face any penalties, despite missing the original due date. This grace period applies specifically to businesses operating under the General Regime.

All ICMS-related obligations must be fulfilled through electronic data transmission using the official Taxpayer Portal. The AGT emphasised that submissions should be made exclusively through the government website at portaldocontribuinte.minfin.gov.ao, ensuring a standardised process for all taxpayers across the country.
