Saudi Arabia’s ZATCA has reminded businesses to file August 2026 VAT returns and July and August 2026 excise tax returns by 30 September 2026, with late filing penalties ranging from 5% to 25% of the tax due.
Saudi Arabia’s tax authority, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has released two press releases reminding businesses in Saudi Arabia of the 30 September 2026 filing deadline. One covers VAT returns for August 2026. The other covers excise tax returns for July and August 2026.
ZATCA urges establishments to submit VAT returns for August 2026
ZATCA has urged business sector establishments subject to VAT, with goods and services revenue exceeding SAR 40 million, to file their tax returns for August 2026. The deadline for submission is no later than 30 September 2026. The announcement was made on 21 September 2026.
ZATCA has called on establishments to file immediately through the ZATCA App to avoid a late filing fine. A fine will be imposed for failure to file within the specified period. The minimum fine is 5%, and the maximum is 25% of the value of the tax that must be declared.
ZATCA urges establishments subject to excise tax to file their returns for July and August 2026
ZATCA has also urged establishments subject to excise tax to file their tax returns for July and August 2026, no later than 30 September 2026. The announcement was made on 22 September 2026.
ZATCA has called on establishments to expedite filing through its website (zatca.gov.sa) to avoid the penalty for failing to submit the return within the specified period. The penalty ranges from a minimum of 5% to a maximum of 25% of the tax value that should have been declared. A late payment fine of 5% of the unpaid tax amount also applies for each month of delay or part thereof.
