Brazil and Cambodia have agreed to explore negotiations on their income tax treaty as part of broader efforts to strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties.
Cambodia’s Ministry of Economy and Finance announced, on 16 July 2026, that officials from Brazil and Cambodia met on 15 July 2026 to discuss bilateral cooperation.
The two sides agreed to explore formal investment protections, a bilateral free trade agreement, including the possibility of negotiating an income tax treaty. They’re looking at the mechanics of negotiation now.
A permanent Brazilian embassy opened in Phnom Penh in 2024, which removed a logistical barrier.
If concluded, the treaty will need to be finalised, signed, and ratified before it can enter into force.
