Norway’s ambassador to the EU, Anders H. Eide announced that he signed a renegotiated agreement with the EU on administrative cooperation in the field of VAT to combat international VAT fraud on 2 October 2024.

An agreement between Norway and the EU came into effect on 1 September 2018. It ensured effective information exchange, control cooperation, and assistance in the collection of VAT claims.

The EU has further developed its tools for administrative cooperation to tackle VAT fraud more effectively since then. The signed amendment agreement enables the Norwegian tax authorities to take part in more of these tools.

The Director-General of the European Commission, Gerassimos Thomas, signed the amendment agreement on behalf of the EU.

Now that the signing has been completed, a proposition will be presented to the Storting (the Norwegian Parliament) for consent to entry into force.
