The Greek government has enacted a new law that removes stamp duty and introduces a digital transaction tax on 16 September 2024.
This fee will apply to Greek residents and permanent establishments for various transactions, such as loans, deposits, awards, compensation, etc.
The new provisions came into effect upon the publication of the law in the Government Gazette on 16 September 2024. The Digital Transaction Duty will apply to transactions made from 1 December 2024 onwards, while transactions completed before 30 November 2024 will still be subject to stamp duty.
Previously, the Greek parliament reviewed a draft bill from the Ministry of Finance, submitted on 2 September 2024, which proposed eliminating stamp duty and introducing a new digital transaction fee of up to 3.6% on certain transactions.
