Vietnam and Togo have agreed to negotiate an income tax treaty as part of efforts to deepen economic and diplomatic ties, following talks between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and Togolese Foreign Minister Prof. Robert Dussey in Hanoi on 8 January.
The discussions, held to mark 50 years of diplomatic relations, focused on expanding trade, investment, agriculture, seaports, and mining. Both countries agreed to exchange lists of competitive goods to boost trade, while Vietnam pledged support for Togo’s rice cultivation and agricultural development, with potential trilateral cooperation involving development partners.
Son also proposed student exchange and training programmes and sought Togo’s backing for Vietnam’s candidacies in key multilateral organisations. Both sides committed to finalising agreements on investment protection, taxation, and visa exemptions.
Following the talks, the two foreign ministries signed a memorandum of understanding on political consultations, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation.
