The UK tax authority, His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) launched a public consultation on 28 April 2025 to update and improve its dispute resolution process.

The initiative seeks to support taxpayers in recognising and using the most efficient and suitable method to resolve disputes based on their specific situation.

The government is looking to improve HMRC’s approach to dispute resolution by helping taxpayers identify and access the quickest and most appropriate method of dispute resolution for their circumstances.

This consultation is likely to be of interest to individuals, businesses and agents. It includes a proposal to simplify and align the approach for direct and indirect taxes.
