It has been published on 14 August 2012 that Google bosses could be hauled before the UK parliament to answer questions on the technology giant’s tax affairs, as concerns mount over revelations about the company’s low corporate tax bills.

According to reports, Google paid GBP6.09m in corporation tax for the 2011 calendar year. In the six years to the end of 2010, just GBP8m had been paid in total. Google had a UK turnover of GBP395m in 2011.

A Google spokesman has defended the company’s tax affairs, stating that it contributes to the UK economy through local, payroll and corporate taxes. The spokesman said that they comply with all the tax rules in the UK.
