The UK budget that would normally be announced in the autumn will not take place this year. A government spending review will be carried out to establish the level of spending by government departments, but no long-term tax plans will be announced.

The UK Treasury considers that owing to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic it would not be appropriate to set out longer term tax measures at this stage. This announcement comes following the imposition of further restrictions on 22 September to restrict the spread of the virus. Further short-term financial measures are to be announced on 24 September 2020 to help protect employment during the crisis.
