The income tax treaty between Sierra Leone and Turkey officially took effect on 25 March 2024, as confirmed by Presidential Decision No. 8943, which appeared in the Turkish Official Gazette on 7 September 2024. This treaty, signed on 3 November 2020, marks the first tax agreement between the two nations.
A tax treaty is a bilateral agreement between two countries designed to address issues related to double taxation of both passive and active income earned by their citizens. These treaties typically establish how much tax each country can levy on a taxpayer’s income, capital, estate, or wealth. Income tax treaties are also referred to as Double Tax Agreements (DTAs).
