Tanzania and Turkey have signed a double taxation agreement, concluding negotiations that began in February 2025.

Tanzania’s Ministry of Finance has announced that it has signed an income tax treaty with Turkey on 4 May 2026.

This follows after the second round of negotiations regarding the conclusion of a double taxation avoidance agreement between Turkey and Tanzania, which was held in Dar es Salaam from 17 – 20 February, 2025.

The treaty aims to boost investor confidence by removing the burden of paying taxes on the same income in both countries.

Although Tanzania and Turkey have maintained an investment protection agreement since 2011, the absence of a DTA has been a notable shortcoming. The new agreement signals to Turkish businesses that Tanzania is open and ready for investment.

The treaty will enter into force after the ratification instruments are exchanged.
