On 11 January 2024, the Spanish Government issued a press release announcing the approval of the Royal Decree-Law. The Royal Decree-Law was approved by the Spanish Council of Ministers on 27 December 2023. This Decree extends specific measures to address the economic and social consequences derived from the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as to alleviate the effects of the drought. The Decree also announces the further extension of extension of several VAT rate reductions and the extension of windfall taxes on the banking sectors for 2024. The press release highlights that the Royal Decree-Law indefinitely extends the windfall taxes on banks’ extraordinary profits and the additional solidarity wealth tax on individuals with net assets over EUR 3 million.
