South Africa’s wholesale diesel price will fall by up to 1.20 rand a litre from 4 November, while the regulated petrol price will be almost unchanged, after the government cut fuel taxes in its mid-year budget review.
South Africa’s Department of Petroleum announced on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, that the wholesale diesel price will fall by up to ZAR 1.20 a litre from 4 November. The regulated petrol price will decline by only 1 cent a litre.
The finance minister announced the tax relief in October. The fuel levy will be cut by ZAR 3 a litre for diesel and ZAR 1.50 a litre for petrol from 4 November to 1 December. Smaller reductions will remain in place until 5 January, as part of efforts to ease cost-of-living pressures on households and businesses.
In a statement, the petroleum department said higher crude oil and petroleum product prices, together with a weaker rand, contributed to the November adjustments.
South Africa imports most of its fuel, which leaves it exposed to swings in global energy prices.
