The Romanian Senate has approved Draft Law No. L611/2024, ratifying the amending protocol to the 1995 Malta-Romania Income Tax Treaty on 16 December 2024.

The protocol has been submitted to the President for approval and promulgation.

The protocol aligns the original agreement with the OECD Model Tax Convention and introduces rules and procedures to guarantee that income is taxed where economic activity occurs to prevent tax evasion and avoid double taxation. This protocol marks the first amendment to the treaty

Earlier, Romania’s Chamber of Deputies approved the amending protocol to the tax treaty between the two nations on 18 November 2024. The agreement was signed on 4 July 2024.
