On 24 March 2021, the General Tax Authority (GTA) of Qatar published Circulars No. 1 and 2 of 2021 to extend the deadline for filing tax returns for the 2020 tax year in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Circular 1 of 2021, the new tax return filing deadline for taxpayers with a financial year ended 31 December 2020 is extended to 30 June 2021 and for taxpayers with an approved tax year end other than 31 December 2020, the deadline for filing has been extended by 2 months after the original deadline.

According to Circular 2 of 2021, companies that are wholly owned by Qatari or GCC nationals who are resident in Qatar and therefore exempt from income tax, using the standard tax year end on 31 December 2020, the filing deadline has been extended until 31 August 2021. Tax-exempt companies with an approved tax year end other than 31 December 2020, the deadline for filing has been extended by 4 months after the original deadline.

There is no extension for taxpayers who are operating in the field of petroleum and petrochemical operations.
