The 77th Congress will be held from 5 to 9 October 2025 at the Lisbon Congress Centre (CCL)

The global tax community is convening in Lisbon, Portugal for the 77th Congress of the International Fiscal Association (IFA) from 5 to 9 October 2025 at the Lisbon Congress Centre (CCL); nearly six decades after Portugal last hosted the event.

Lisbon once again is welcoming leading experts and practitioners to exchange views on pressing issues in international taxation.

This year’s Congress features two Main Topics of critical importance to global tax practice:

  • “Residence of Legal Entities for Corporate Income Tax Purposes” – exploring how jurisdictions determine corporate residence and the implications for cross-border taxation.
  • “Improper Use of Tax Treaties from the Source State Perspective” – addressing treaty abuse and measures to ensure fairness and integrity in international tax systems.

Beyond these discussions, the Congress offers opportunities for networking, professional collaboration, and the exchange of diverse perspectives shaping the future of international tax policy.

The IFA, a globally recognised organisation – with over 13,500 members spanning 116 jurisdictions – includes tax advisers, corporate tax directors, judges, academics, and policymakers.

Each year, its annual congress serves as a premier platform for in-depth discussions on current international tax developments and policy challenges.
