Poland has introduced another temporary round of fuel tax cuts, reducing VAT on petrol, diesel, and pure fuel biocomponents to 8% and cutting excise duties to EU minimum levels from 3 October through 31 December 2026.
Poland’s Ministry of Finance and Economy has introduced another round of tax cuts on motor fuels on 2 October 2026.
The latest tax round goes into effect on 3 October 2026. The reductions apply until 31 December 2026.
The Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol, diesel, and pure fuel biocomponents drops from 23% to 8% starting 3 October. The excise tax has been cut to the EU minimum: PLN 0.29 per litre for gasoline and PLN 0.28 per litre for diesel fuel.
Minister Andrzej Domański said drivers would see prices fall by approximately PLN 1.2 to 1.3 per litre by the weekend of 5-6 October 2026. The regulations were published in the Journal of Laws following the minister’s decision.
This marks the third fuel price intervention in 2026 under the CPN (Lower Fuel Prices) program.
Previously, the government reduced VAT and excise duties from March 31 to June 30, with excise cuts running from 30 March to 15 June 2026. A separate VAT reduction remained in effect from 17 August to 31 August 2026.
The program launched in response to global fuel market instability linked to Middle East tensions. Tax cuts became possible through the Act on tax on extraordinary profits from the sale of fuels, which provides legal backing for these temporary measures.
