The government of Poland has put forward a proposal for an exemption from special taxes for the shale gas industry until the year 2020, and this is now being considered by parliament. This follows a complaint from the Supreme Audit Office that the exploration of shale gas was not going ahead quickly enough.
A number of energy companies have decided not to pursue exploration for shale gas in Poland despite large estimated reserves in the country. If the new legislation successfully passes through parliament, however, the exploration and production of shale gas could increase significantly.
