The government of Poland has put forward a proposal for an exemption from special taxes for the shale gas industry until the year 2020, and this is now being considered by parliament. This follows a complaint from the Supreme Audit Office that the exploration of shale gas was not going ahead quickly enough.
A number of energy companies have decided not to pursue exploration for shale gas in Poland despite large estimated reserves in the country. Â If the new legislation successfully passes through parliament, however, the exploration and production of shale gas could increase significantly.
