Peru and Spain have reaffirmed their commitment to concluding and signing a new income tax treaty, following their 11th Political Consultations held on 8 September 2026.
Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a release, confirmed that officials from Peru and Spain met on 8 September 2026 for their 11th Political Consultations and reaffirmed the need to conclude negotiations and sign a new income tax treaty.
The talks formed part of continued high-level dialogue under the two countries’ Reinforced Strategic Partnership, established in 2015. Citing growing trade, investment and tourism ties, both sides gave high priority to concluding and signing the Convention to Avoid Double Taxation and Prevent Tax Evasion, which is expected to strengthen legal certainty and support investment.
The two countries also agreed to deepen cooperation on transnational organised crime, drug trafficking, agricultural research, supercomputing and disaster risk management. Peru reaffirmed its support for Spain’s hosting of the XXX Ibero-American Summit in Madrid in November 2026.
The new treaty is required to be finalised, signed and ratified before it can enter into force.
