The technical negotiations aim to update the 2005 Paraguay-Chile tax treaty, incorporating it with updated OECD and UN standards.

According to the Paraguay Information Agency, on 30 June 2025, Paraguay and Chile are nearing the conclusion of technical negotiations to update their 2005 tax treaty, aligning it with the latest OECD and UN standards.

The update to the tax treaty also intends to strengthen bilateral cooperation, ensuring greater legal certainty for investors and residents of both countries, and more effectively combating abusive tax planning in transnational transactions.

This is the first revision of the treaty, and the technical negotiations are expected to conclude in the coming weeks.

After that, the agreed texts will begin the legal and formal review stages, with a view to their signature and subsequent submission to the parliaments of both countries for approval and entry into force.
