On 23 January 2025, officials from Panama and Peru met to discuss strengthening economic and trade relations, including negotiating an income tax treaty.
The income tax treaty between the two countries would eliminate double taxation and prevent tax evasion. It would also provide a more favourable environment for businesses operating in both countries, promoting investment and economic growth.
If finalised, it would be the first such agreement between the two countries and must be signed and ratified to take effect.
