The Oman Tax Authority introduced a centralised system for electronic invoicing, starting phased implementation with large VAT taxpayers from August 2026.
The Oman Tax Authority (OTA) has launched the “Fawtara” platform, initiating the phased introduction of electronic invoicing across the country.
The system aims to improve the collection and monitoring of transactional data and standardise invoice exchanges between businesses, service providers, and the Tax Authority.
The implementation will follow four phases:
- Phase 1: 100 large VAT-registered companies, starting August 2026.
- Phase 2: All large VAT-registered companies, starting February 2027.
- Phase 3: Remaining VAT-registered companies, starting August 2027.
- Phase 4: Government entities, start date to be confirmed.
The rollout requires businesses to issue electronic invoices in the approved format, use an approved service provider or compatible ERP system, and submit invoice data to the Tax Authority.
Companies not included in the first phase may adopt the system voluntarily.
