The Federal Internal Revenue Service (FIRS) issued a notice that mentioned updates to the TaxPro-Max portal. These updates are expected to alleviate the tax payment issues faced by taxpayers.
As per the notice, the payment reference number (PRN) can now be retrieved remotely, allowing for partial settlement of tax liabilities. Taxpayers with valid portal login credentials can generate PRNs remotely, and they don’t need to visit the FIRS Office.
Taxpayers can settle their tax liabilities either in full or partially. In addition, there are provisions for lump sum or piecemeal settlements for additional assessments from tax investigations, tax audits, and desk reviews, including interest and penalties.
The notice also includes some measures related to outstanding tax liabilities. As per the notice, taxpayers with pending tax obligations must settle their liabilities by 30 November 2023. Failure to meet this deadline will result in legal action by the FIRS.
The FIRS will finalize all tax audits, desk reviews, and tax investigations that have exceeded their allocated timeframes.
Additionally, taxpayers are required to provide any missing information by November 30, 2023, to assist in the resolution of open issues by the FIRS. Failure to comply with this directive will lead to the conclusion of cases based on existing available information.
