On 2 June 2020, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) issued a public notice to extend the deadline for obtaining a waiver of interest and penalty on outstanding tax debts resulting from tax desk review, audit and/or investigation assessments. Under the public notice, the deadline of interest and penalty relief will be extended from 31 May 2020 to 30 June 2020. The notice also states that taxpayers can be benefited if liabilities arising from self-assessment filing, tax audit, tax investigation and desk review assessments; and approved installment payment plans under the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) that have not been complied with or are partially complied with.
