The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that officials from Japan and the Philippines will meet in Manila on 27 January 2026 to begin talks on updating their Income Tax Treaty, aiming to strengthen tax cooperation and prevent double taxation.
The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, on 26 January 2026, that the first round of negotiations to update the Japan–Philippines Income Tax Treaty will begin in Manila today, 27 January 2026.
The treaty was originally signed in 1980 and was partially amended by a protocol in 2008.
Officials from both governments will explore ways to strengthen cooperation on taxation matters.
