Italy has reduced the excise tax on diesel and eligible renewable fuels to EUR 532.90 per thousand litres for 17 days from 7 August 2026, extending temporary relief aimed at easing fuel costs.
Italy has lowered the excise tax on diesel fuel to EUR 532.90 per thousand litres for 17 days, effective 7 August 2026, under Law decree No. 139/2026, which was published in the Official Journal No. 180 of 5 August 2026.
The cut applies to gas oils and diesel used as road transport fuel, plus synthetic or hydrotreated paraffinic oils (HVO) and biodiesel meeting EU standards. Both fuels drop to the same rate of EUR 532.90 per thousand litres through 24 August 2026.
Earlier, Italy reinstated a temporary excise duty reduction on diesel from 27 July 2026 to help ease fuel costs for households and businesses. The previous diesel excise cut was in effect from March to 3 July 2026.
