Italy published Law No. 2 of 16 January 2025 in its Official Gazette on 24 January 2025, ratifying the income tax treaty with Libya.
This follows after Italy’s Chamber of Deputies approved the law ratifying the income tax treaty with Libya on 8 January 2025. Earlier, Italy’s Senate had approved ratification of the tax treaty with Libya on 11 September 2024.
Signed on 10 June 2009, this tax treaty is the first between the two countries and is intended to promote economic cooperation and avoid double taxation between the two nations.
The treaty will enter into force once ratification instruments are exchanged and apply from 1 January of the following year.
