India’s Ministry of Finance has revised Central Excise duty rates on select petroleum products through three notifications issued on 3 August 2026. The amended rates took effect immediately upon publication in the Official Gazette.

India’s Ministry of Finance (MoF) has issued three notifications revising Central Excise duty rates on select petroleum products.

The Department of Revenue issued Notification Nos. 40/2026-Central Excise, 41/2026-Central Excise and 42/2026-Central Excise, amending earlier notifications dated 26 March 2026.

Notification No. 40/2026-Central Excise amends Notification No. 06/2026-Central Excise. It revises the rates against Serial Nos. 1 and 2 in Column (4) to INR  3.5 per litre and INR  24 per litre, respectively.

Notification No. 41/2026-Central Excise amends Notification No. 08/2026-Central Excise and replaces the rate against Serial No. 1 in Column (4) with INR  22 per litre.

Under Notification No. 42/2026-Central Excise, Notification No. 11/2026-Central Excise has been amended. The rate against Serial No. 2 in Column (4) has been replaced with INR 1.5 per litre.

The notifications were issued under the relevant provisions of the Central Excise Act, 1944 and the Finance Acts. They provide for the amendments to take effect immediately upon publication in the Official Gazette.

The revised rates took effect from 3 August 2026.
