Hong Kong’s Airport Authority has raised the passenger security charge with effect from June 1 2014. This charge is paid by each passenger departing from Hong Kong International Airport and is to be increased by 36 percent. This passenger security charge is made to recover the cost of extra security measures taken at the airport. As well as the security charge every passenger over the age of twelve departing from the airport must pay an airport departure tax of HKD120. This tax does not apply to passengers in transit.
