Officials from Moldova and Egypt met to advance negotiations on an income tax treaty and strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that on 18 February 2026, officials from Egypt and Moldova met to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation, including progress on negotiations for an income tax treaty.
In the dialogue with the Ambassador of Egypt, the prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation were discussed, including advancing discussions on draft agreements in various areas, such as free trade, protection of mutual investments, avoidance of double taxation, air services and collaboration in the field of culture and tourism. At the same time, the possibilities of expanding economic cooperation in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, agriculture, IT and tourism were addressed, including by facilitating trade exchanges and developing air connections.
Negotiations on income tax treaties are conducted between governments to prevent double taxation and curb tax evasion on income earned across borders.
If an agreement is reached, it must go through a process of finalisation, formal signing, and ratification in both jurisdictions before it can enter into force.
