Cyprus’s Justice Minister has promised that a new Administrative Court due to open in September will cut the waiting time for tax appeals. Tax cases currently take two years to process in the Supreme Court, but the time required to hear a case will be reduced to no longer than nine months. Currently there are 5,000 cases pending, and up to 2,500 complaints are filed each year. This change will remove the possibility of exploiting the system to delay making payment. The authority to consider tax cases will be transferred to the new court through an amendment to the constitution.
