Chile grants automatic deferral of monthly VAT and tax filings through 30 October 2026 for taxpayers in 28 storm-hit municipalities, waiving fines and interest.
Chile’s Ministry of Finance, the tax authority (SII), and the General Treasury of the Republic (TGR) have granted automatic tax relief to taxpayers in 28 municipalities hit by a recent storm system, according to a release on 19 July 2026.
Effective through 30 October 2026, businesses and individuals in the affected areas can defer monthly VAT and tax filings (Forms 29 and 50) without fines or interest, with the extension applied automatically upon submission.
The relief covers nine regions: Atacama, Coquimbo, Valparaíso, the Metropolitan region, O’Higgins, Maule, Biobío, Araucanía, and Los Ríos.
Which municipalities qualify
The list includes urban centres like Ovalle and Vallenar, plus smaller communes throughout the affected zones. Because VAT deadlines fall on 20 July 2026, the SII and TGR have already begun processing claims and may add municipalities in the coming days if additional damage assessments warrant inclusion.
Case-by-case review available
Taxpayers outside these 28 municipalities who face genuine hardship can request individual relief. The SII and TGR will evaluate these applications with supporting documentation to determine eligibility.
