The Government desires to appeal a recent court judgment stating that expats who have been outside the country for more than five years should be approved to vote and it was said by Canada’s Minister for Democratic Reform. The shortcomings were challenged by two Canadian citizens who reside in the United States for working purpose.
The Ontario Superior Court ruled last month that refusing the right of non-residents to vote is in friction with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Justice of the Ontario Superior Court rejected the Attorney General’s argument that non-residents do not have the right to live with the results of Parliament’s decisions, notifying that many continue to have tax discipline in the country.
