Kosovo and Ontario officials have met to explore investment partnerships in mining, defence, and technology, with Pristina confirming that a foreign investment protection agreement with Canada is already in place and that negotiations toward a bilateral income tax treaty is now underway.

According to a statement from Kosovo’s Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship, and Trade, representatives from Kosovo met with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce on 5 March 2026 to discuss investment opportunities and strengthening economic cooperation.

During the meeting, the Ministry confirmed that a foreign investment protection agreement between Kosovo and Canada has already been signed, while negotiations for an income tax treaty — which would be the first between the two countries — are currently underway.

Any resulting agreement would be the first between Canada and Kosovo and would require ratification by both countries’ legislative bodies before coming into effect.

Ontario, which accounts for roughly 38–40% of Canada’s GDP and has an economy exceeding CAD 1 trillion, was presented as a key partner for Kosovo as it seeks to attract foreign capital by leveraging its young workforce and natural resources.
