Belgium's Federal Public Service Finance will assume control of the Belgian Peppol Authority from 2027, taking over the role from FPS BOSA, which has managed the e-invoicing authority since its establishment at the end of 2015.
Belgium’s digital infrastructure overhaul continues with a significant administrative reshuffle. The Federal Public Service Finance (FPS Finance) will take control of the Belgian Peppol Authority from 2027, assuming responsibilities held by the Belgian Federal Public Service Strategy and Support (BOSA) since the authority’s inception in late 2015.
This announcement was confirmed by BOSA on 25 June 2025.
The Peppol Authority manages Belgium’s electronic invoicing framework and certification processes—infrastructure that underpins both current e-invoicing requirements and the forthcoming e-reporting system for continuous transaction monitoring (CTC). Moving this function under FPS Finance consolidates oversight of both invoicing and tax-related reporting under one ministry.
FPS Finance possesses the tax expertise essential to oversee e-reporting compliance, an area outside FPS BOSA’s traditional remit. The transition streamlines decision-making, clarifies accountability, and simplifies procedures for businesses navigating Belgium’s digital invoice landscape. FPS Finance becomes the single point of contact for both e-invoicing and e-reporting matters.
Both agencies are coordinating closely to ensure a structured, legally compliant transition. FPS BOSA’s accumulated experience managing Peppol operations over the past decade will guide the process. Further details—including timeline milestones, governance frameworks, and stakeholder consultation—will be announced through official channels: the Peppol Service Provider Forum, the Business Expert Group, and the respective ministry websites.
