The US has exempted specified medicines and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) imported from Bangladesh and 19 other markets from import tariffs. The exemption had covered selected specialised medicines, veterinary medicines and related ingredients.
The US has exempted specified medicines and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) from import tariffs for 20 countries and regions, including Bangladesh and India.
The exemption covers rare disease medicines, fertility drugs, advanced cell and gene therapies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and veterinary medicines, along with their APIs.
The US Department of Commerce published the eligible countries and product categories in the Federal Register.
The measure follows an April directive under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act covering tariffs on pharmaceutical products and related chemical ingredients.
Generic medicines and ingredients used to make them remain excluded from Section 232 pharmaceutical tariffs.
