Argentina has ratified the MERCOSUR-Singapore free trade agreement, establishing rules for trade, investment and other economic areas, with tariffs to be phased out under schedules of up to 15 years.
Argentina’s President signed Decree No. 1010/2026 on 14 September 2026, promulgating Law No. 27.819 and ratifying the free trade agreement between MERCOSUR (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay) and Singapore (MCSFTA), signed on 7 December 2023. The decree was published in Official Gazette No. 35.992 on 15 September 2026.
The treaty establishes a free trade zone for goods and services, with WTO-aligned rules supporting fair competition and MSMEs. It covers trade, investment, public procurement, intellectual property, e-commerce, and other economic areas, while seeking to reduce trade barriers and improve regulatory certainty.
Tariffs will be phased out at different rates, ranging from immediate elimination to 15-year schedules for certain sectors. The agreement also simplifies trade procedures through duty-free treatment for low-value samples, temporary admission of professional and trade-fair goods, and streamlined processes for goods sent abroad for repair.
The agreement will enter into force for Argentina on the first day of the second month following the date on which Argentina notifies the depositary of its ratification.
Earlier, the MERCOSUR-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (MCSFTA) entered into force for Paraguay on 1 February 2026 and for Uruguay on 1 March 2026.
